This project has been an enjoyable and challenging process. It required a wide range of skills which I believe I have developed even further as a result of the work undertaken. The advance in my understanding mechanics and its role within music has been huge. I now understand a great deal about contact microphones and retrofitting techniques. I have explored new possibilites in terms of performance length and have got to integrate my own interest in woodcraft and engines.

 

At the start of the project I laid out a set of goals which I deemed as the Design, Musical and Interaction aspects of DMI. I am confident that I have achieved these to a high standard. I am most pleased with the look of the piece and the tones and rhythms created, I may explore the possibility of powering the crank alternately. I still want it to be a physical interaction, however if this could be using my legs this would free up another hand to use in the tuning and mixing of the sounds.
